The God Who Wasn’t There (DVD)

DVD

I would like to see and listen to this video again. The director went to the Christian school that he reviews in the film, and found that the threats of damnation were a little tough on a young mind and this was one of the motivations for investigating Christianity. Identifying the Christ story as a myth and then showing how it is so unflinchingly accepted as reality has led to unhealthy outcomes. In politics, there are some Christians who don't think of the best solution but follow a doctrine unthinkingly. In Christian schools the use of fear helps to persuade pupils to believe in Christ as their saviour without freely choosing. The history of violence in the Church was very intriguing and maybe helps to explain why it's so accepted - guns, wars, personal acts of violence. These are ideas I'd like to explore again, both in this video and in other contexts. (Review)
